[Dehya awakens like normal, but it doesn't take long for the sense that something is very, very wrong.
It doesn't take long to figure out why that is. It should be a good thing. The show can end early. It should mean preventing more deaths--except for what Sika claims they need to fulfill it.
She hunts down Louis. There's not so much a belief he's done anything so much as--well, they need to talk about this. Somewhere they won't worry their roommates.]
So... you heard something from Sika, right?
[This is partly to assess if she was the only one told to kill.]
[It's been something he'd been mulling about since that call came out from Sika, so it isn't until Dehya approaches him that he glances up from where he's loitering by the canal, his gaze seemingly focused on the dark, inky waters.]
...Yeah, I did. They want someone else to be killed this week. [He says, calmly.] It appears we've been playing into their hands this entire time.
[Dehya clenches her fists. He gets to the heart of it.]
Guess I wasn't totally wrong we'd be asked directly. [Just, you know, she figured more isolated than these contracts. But maybe they're what give Sika the power to even do this.] Something tells me this path is going to come with even more caveats.
I think it's best to assume they're still hiding things from us. We haven't been told the significance of those black roses, either. If anything, it feels more appropriate to see them as an ill omen.
[He's reminded, briefly, of the conversation they had a couple of weeks ago, in the aftermath of Lavi getting bitten. While they've learned much since then, the situation as a whole hadn't changed: this place still demanded blood from them, regardless of their own feelings on the matter.]
I think we shouldn't rush to make another sacrifice out of someone. There have already been too many as is, and we don't know what outcome this would lead to.
[Would everything really work out as promised, or would this turn out to be nothing but snake oil peddled to to them by capitalizing on their desperation? He couldn't tell, not at this juncture.]
Glad we agree. [Dehya's shoulders sag with relief.] I think we need to be extra careful around Sika with what we know now. I got another memory--I'll tell everyone later, but I don't think they're as much of a prisoner in this place as they pretend.
[Not that Father doesn't still suck but, like, it's a more distant form of sucking from Sika.]
You remember the wording of your contract, right? Bet Lavi can help us figure out some loopholes.
[His brows furrow at the mention of the memory, but he won't try pressing. Besides, she's already given him plenty of food for thought with that tidbit anyway.]
About that--when the contract was offered, I asked for a clause to be added in. Essentially, I only promised to provide protection if didn't jeopardize my duties back home. It wasn't my intent to use it as a loophole, but I suppose it gives me the right to refuse if I feel my life is at risk.
[Dehya nods.] I had mind include the Troupe too, just in case a fight happened between everyone here and Sika.
[At the time it didn't seem that likely, but she was warned to at least be cautious so she... she tried getting a better deal.] Gotta admit, having to kill someone else runs counter to what mine was even supposed to be about. And I'm sure Sika knows that.
What do you think about who's chosen to stay awake or not after curfew?
[At least it seems they're covered when it comes to avoiding direct conflict with their friends, which is a relief. Well, direct conflict outside of the context of murder, rather.
But curfew patterns, eh...?]
Intent to kill seems to be a factor, but it's hard to say what connects the two victims. Lavi was seemingly chosen at random, and I don't think we confirmed [he pauses here with a bit of a grimace.] the second time if the choice of victim was deliberate.
[Honestly, there's one other alternative he can think of, but that would effectively come down to playing a guessing game, and the odds are stacked against them.]
I suppose you're right. [...] We should make arrangements to stay in separate locations, then. We'll have to think of what to tell Elan, too.
I think he should be safe as long as he stays in the dorms. If someone’s searching for a target, there are better strategies than attempting to break through a locked door.
[Especially with the number of people that seem to stay outside their rooms come nightfall…
In any case, he nods at that tidy summary of their plan. Although.]
Actually, do you mind if I ask what task you received this week?
[Dehya nods. There's something sobering about really agreeing to it, even though it was her idea. But--she thinks Louis understands that if anyone can take the burden willingly, that's better than leaving it to chance and desperation.
They made contracts, after all.]
Oh, I'm supposed to duel someone. [Or someone's.] Should be easy enough. What about you?

That's certainly one method of approaching it. Do you think that would be enough?

[Deciding to kill each other before curfew doesn't mean they have to ultimately follow through, right?]

I suppose you're right. [...] We should make arrangements to stay in separate locations, then. We'll have to think of what to tell Elan, too.

But I'm worried about Elan being alone. I know there's not much we can do if we pass out, but...
[At least one of them there could help with reinforcements so no one can get in.]
So we split up, and... decide we'd kill each other once curfew hits.
